Saanich Zero Waste Strategy
Saanich’s 2020 Climate Plan identified the need for a community wide zero waste strategy.
Development of the strategy was approved by Council in May 2024 and the first phase of engagement took place later that year. The strategy will establish the vision, targets, and pathway necessary for Saanich to become a zero-waste community.
The strategy will align with the extensive work already underway in the region and will focus on curbing consumption patterns, improving diversion rates, and implementing circular economy opportunities. Not only will this work contribute to reducing our environmental and climate impacts, but it will also support local economic development and the maintenance of healthy and vibrant communities for the future.

Waste is a collective challenge, but also an opportunity. Eliminating waste can be a great way to conserve resources, protect our natural spaces, and even save money! Your participation as an individual or household is essential as it will help us identify policies and actions that can address needs and challenges in our community.
