Boleskine Cycling Improvements Project
The District of Saanich will be installing protected bike lanes on Boleskine and Harriet Roads, between Irma Street and Tennyson Avenue.
This installation will be combined with crosswalk and sidewalk improvements at the Boleskine-Harriet intersection, as well as paving work between Irma Street and Whittier Avenue.
📅 August 21st Update
Paving work on Harriet Road and Boleskine Road between Irma Street and Whittier Avenue is now complete.
District of Saanich crews will be returning to Harriet Road north of Boleskine Road to complete asphalt sidewalk work near the intersection.
The Capital Regional District (CRD) will continue work at the Boleskine Road and Whittier Avenue intersection over the coming weeks as part of their Regional Trestles Renewal, Trails Widening and Lighting Project.
As the project advances, pavement markings will be reinstated on Harriet Road and Boleskine Road, and protected bike lanes will be installed using pre-cast concrete curbs.

📅 August 14th Update
Starting Monday, August 17th, the District of Saanich will be milling and paving Harriet Road and Boleskine Road between Irma Street and Whittier Avenue.
Work will take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and is expected to take approximately one week to complete.
Motorists can expect temporary traffic delays and should allow extra travel time while work is underway.

📅 July 28th Update
Construction at the Boleskine Road and Harriet Road intersection has temporarily concluded.
Minor roadway maintenance is planned for the week of August 10th. Milling and paving on Harriet Road and Boleskine Road, from Irma Street to Whittier Avenue, is anticipated for the week of August 17th. Additional milling and paving will also take place on Harriet Road north of Boleskine Road, near the intersection.
Following milling and paving, pavement markings will be updated and protected bike lanes will be installed using pre-cast concrete curbs from Irma Street to Tennyson Avenue.
The Capital Regional District (CRD) is also preparing to begin detour construction at the Boleskine Road and Whittier Avenue intersection as part of the Regional Trestles Renewal, Trails Widening and Lighting Project.

Project overview
Boleskine Road is identified as a short-term bicycle network priority in the District’s Active Transportation Plan, and a key east–west cycling connection linking Harriet Road and Hampton Road to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. The selection of protected bike lanes is based on existing vehicle volumes and speeds, improving safety for both cyclists and pedestrians by providing additional separation from vehicle traffic.
Why are we doing this?
This project will fill a gap in the cycling network as we work toward implementing the long-term network, enhance a corridor with a history of collisions, and upgrade the pedestrian crossing at Harriet Road—while strengthening regional connections. Overall, it supports a safer, more connected, and more balanced transportation network for all users.
Project Timeline
Construction Phase 1: May 2026
Phase 1 includes sidewalk improvements at the northwest corner of the Boleskine-Harriet intersection, at the east end of Hampton Road.
Construction Phase 2: June-July 2026
This phase includes sidewalk and crosswalk improvements to the east side of the Boleskine-Harriet intersection, along with paving work, roadway markings, and installation of protected bike lanes between Irma Street and Davidson Avenue.

Traffic Impacts
Construction crews will be on site daily during the construction period. Traffic delays are expected in order for the crews to safely carry out their work. While we aim to minimize disruption, single-alternating traffic may be in effect at times. Effort will be made to minimize inconvenience and maintain access for local residents and businesses.
