Cadillac Avenue and Seaton Street Improvements

About the project

The District of Saanich is implementing traffic calming measures on Cadillac Avenue and neighbourhood bikeway improvements on Seaton Street. The project area includes:

  • Cadillac Avenue: from Tillicum Road to Carey Road
  • Seaton Street: from Carey Road to the Galloping Goose entrance (Crease Avenue)

What work is being done?

The planned improvements include:

  • Five speed humps (three on Cadillac and two on Seaton)
  • New pavement markings (“sharrows”) on Seaton Street
  • New and updated signage
  • Minor parking changes at selected locations

What to expect

Some temporary changes to pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle access may occur during installation. Efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience for residents and maintain access to homes, businesses and nearby destinations.

The majority of existing parking will remain unchanged. As part of this work, minor parking restrictions will be implemented at selected locations to maintain safe sightlines and provide sufficient roadway space. Nearby property owners have been informed via an earlier notification.

Why are we doing this?

These improvements are designed to address road safety concerns in the area and encourage appropriate driving behaviour in a residential neighbourhood.

The addition of speed humps will help lower vehicle speeds along Cadillac Avenue and Seaton Street, while localized parking changes will help maintain clear sightlines and appropriate roadway space.

The Seaton Street neighbourhood bikeway will grow Saanich’s long-term network by creating a comfortable north-south route that connects to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and other nearby cycling facilities. The overall design was identified through the Neighbourhood Bikeway Identification and Prioritization project.

This project also supports Saanich’s active transportation goals and its new Traffic Calming Policy , which guides how traffic calming measures are planned and implemented across the community.

Project area

  • October 19-20: Speed hump construction on Cadillac Avenue. Sections of the roadway may be temporarily closed or reduced to single-lane alternating traffic while crews complete the work. Detour or traffic control signs will be in place as required.
  • October 19-20: Speed hump construction on Seaton Street. Temporary traffic impacts and short delays should be expected.

Neighbourhood bikeways are streets with low traffic and speed where people cycling and driving can safely share the road together. They play an important role in Saanich’s active transportation network by providing safe cycling connections located away from busy roads.
