
Cordova Bay Road Improvement Project (Rambler Road to Walema Avenue)
The District of Saanich is undertaking an active transportation improvements along Cordova Bay Road, between Rambler Road and Walema Road. This project will enhance pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, supporting safer and more accessible travel for all users.
Project overview
Cordova Bay Road is a key route for local residents, students, and park users. Planned improvements will provide safer connections to schools, parks, and the surrounding neighbourhood.
This project is guided by the District of Saanich Active Transportation Plan and Safe Routes to School plan for Cordova Bay Elementary.
The project area includes:
- Cordova Bay Road (Rambler Road to Walema Avenue)
Improvements include:
- New concrete sidewalk, curb, and bike lane on the west side of Cordova Bay Road
- Concrete curbs, bike lane, and multi-use pathway on the east side of Cordova Bay Road
- Sidewalk along the south side of Fenn Road/Parker Avenue
- Three new raised crosswalks with pedestrian-activated flashing lights at Fenn Road, Rambler Road, and Walema Road
- Realignment of Rambler Road at Cordova Bay Road, including shortened crossings and new corner ramps
- Drainage upgrades with new catch basins
- Formalized parking bays in front of the school and the park
- Repaving of Cordova Bay Road within the project limits
Any tree removed will be replaced with three new trees within Saanich, with the priority for replacement trees to be planted within the project area. The District has retained a project arborist to prioritize tree protection and retention during the projects design and construction, in alignment with the District’s Tree Protection Bylaw.

What to expect
- The project is currently being prepared for tender, but construction has been delayed until June 2026 pending an archaeological permit.
- In the meantime, 'no parking' signs have been installed on the east side of Cordova Bay Road to create a dedicated pedestrian space from Mattick’s Wood to the Fenn crosswalk.
