Del Monte Avenue Watermain Replacement Project
Start Date: July 2026
Completion Date: October 2026
What’s Happening?
The District of Saanich is undertaking utility upgrades on Del Monte Avenue from Walema Avenue to the north end of Del Monte Avenue. The scope of work includes the replacement of existing infrastructure including the watermain and service connections.
Why are we doing this?
The watermain located from 5227 to 5256 Del Monte Avenue is 100mm dia. AC pipe, which was installed in 1959. It currently services Del Monte Place and Hydrant #1638. The Water Supply Master Plan (circa 2022) identified the section of pipe as requiring upgrades due to fire flow deficiencies as a high priority.
Construction Impacts:
During construction, work will take place between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday.
Vehicle access will be impacted by single lane alternating traffic and full closures depending on the work area. Some properties will have their driveway inaccessible for a short period of time. Saanich Public Works staff will notify residents of these occasions and try to accommodate any access concerns.
Traffic control personnel and signage will be in-place to help direct vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians through and around the work areas.
Phased disruption to services in the area will occur during construction. Saanich Public Works will notify residents a minimum of 24 hours prior to any disruption of services. Waste collection and recycling services will be maintained.
Project Timeline:
Construction is expected to begin in July 2026 and last until October 2026. This timeline is subject to change according to site specific conditions throughout construction.
Hello Saanich will be updated as the project progresses.
