Douglas Connector Neighbourhood Bikeway Improvements
About the project
The District will be installing new signage and pavement markings (“sharrows”) along a stretch of the Douglas Connector, which includes:
- The shared pathway connecting McKenzie Street (Rainbow Park) to Douglas Street
- Douglas Street: from Ralph Street to Haynes Road
- The shared pathway connecting Douglas Street to the Lochside Regional Trail through the parking lot at Saanich Municipal Hall.
What to expect
There are no major traffic impacts anticipated for this project. When Saanich crews are placing new pavement markings on the road, there are may be brief periods of single-lane alternating traffic (SLAT).
Please note any Traffic Control Personnel during construction and follow their directions accordingly.
Why are we doing this?
These improvements will grow Saanich’s long-term cycling network and formalize a north-south connection that runs parallel to the Patricia Bay Highway. It enhances connectivity between the Quadra neighbourhood, the Saanich core, and the regional trail network along a known cycle-friendly route.
Updated signage and “sharrows” will improve wayfinding and visibility for all users.
This route was identified as part of the wider Neighbourhood Bikeways Identification and Prioritization Project. It involved technical analysis and community input to determine bikeway routes designed to promote safer travel throughout Saanich.

Neighbourhood bikeways are streets with low traffic and speed where people cycling and driving can safely share the road together. They play an important role in Saanich’s active transportation network by providing safe cycling connections located away from busy roads.
