Grange Road Upgrades
The District of Saanich is moving forward with active transportation improvements along Grange Road from Burnside West Road and to Interurban Road. Grange Road is classified as a collector road but has a feel and a look of a residential road with 2200 average vehicles per day. This road is connecting Burnside Road and Interurban Road and frequently used by students attending Marigold Elementary School, Spectrum Community School, and St Joseph’s Elementary School. There is a well-used connection to a Galloping Goose Trail from south end of Grange Road, which connects Carey Road Community with other communities through regional trail system.
The existing pedestrian facilities along Grange Road presents an outdated and narrow asphalt sidewalk, not wide enough to accommodate a couple of people comfortably walking side by side. There have been a number of complaints about speeding vehicles along Grange, which creates even more challenges for pedestrians while using this road. The existing sidewalk is well used by public, as it connects to different levels of schools at the south end of the road as well as to Galloping Goose regional trail. The need for improvements to pedestrian facility is outlined in Local Safe Routes to School program and Active Transportation Plan.
📅 October 1, 6 & 7: Special Conditions – Paving Work
Paving is tentatively scheduled on Grange Road between Burnside Road West and the Galloping Goose Trail on Wednesday, October 1. Additional paving at the intersection of Grange Road and Burnside Road West is scheduled for Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7, weather permitting.
For the section fronting Marigold School, crews will aim to work around school pick-up and drop-off times, but parents and staff should still expect delays.
During these periods, single-lane alternating traffic will be in place, and motorists should expect delays through the area.
Residents in the area should plan for extra travel time in the morning and evening, as traffic flow will be impacted.
⚠️ Please note:
Paving work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if the forecast changes. Updates will be posted here if any changes to the schedule occur.
