Jamaica Road Right of Way (ROW) Storm and Sewer Upgrades
What’s happening?
The District of Saanich will be undertaking utility upgrades within the Statutory Right-of-Way (SRW) from 1471 Jamaica Road to 1463 Jamaica Road. The work includes replacement of the existing sanitary sewer and storm drain infrastructure, as well as installation of new service connections to properties on Jamaica Road and Cedar Hill Road.
To help minimize disruption to residents, a separate restoration plan will be developed and coordinated with individual homeowners to address property-specific considerations.
Construction Impacts
Additional construction impact details will be communicated closer to the start of construction.
Traffic control personnel and signage will be in place to help direct vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians safely through and around the work area.
This infrastructure is located within an existing statutory right-of-way that runs through portions of private property, which is why some work may occur within backyard area. Temporary disruption to private property is anticipated, including limited fence removal and access within the SRW. The District will restore all disturbed areas in the same or better condition. To support restoration, pre-construction photographs will be taken to document existing site conditions.
Temporary driveway access interruptions are anticipated at 1467 Jamaica Road for a short period during construction. Construction crews will provide advance notice and work with residents to accommodate access concerns where possible.
Residents will receive a minimum of 24 hours notice prior to any planned service interruptions.
Garbage and recycling services will be maintained throughout construction.
Project Timeline
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in September 2026.
Given the complexity of the project and the potential for unforeseen underground conditions, schedules may be subject to change.
Construction is currently estimated to take approximately 7 weeks from the start of work.
Why are we doing this?
The existing sanitary sewer and storm drain infrastructure has reached the end of its service life and has been identified as being in poor condition.
This project will replace aging infrastructure to maintain reliable service, reduce the risk of failures, and provide new service connections to each property where the main is being replaced.
