Jennifer Road and Doncaster Drive Traffic Calming and Safety Enhancement
Background:
In response to numerous complaints about speeding and historical motorist speeds along Jennifer Road and Doncaster Drive, stretching from Cedar Hill Cross Road to Derby Road, the Engineering Department is currently exploring the feasibility of implementing traffic calming measures. The primary aim is to investigate the potential for enhancing safety, reducing speeds, and promoting walking and cycling as a regular mode of transportation in this area. Notably, this corridor features hills, curves, over 100 homes, a lack of sidewalk infrastructure, and is in proximity to schools and parks.
Traffic Calming Proposal:
In the pursuit of prioritizing pedestrian and cyclist safety, the Engineering Department is actively reviewing the possibility of installing several speed humps strategically placed along the Jennifer Road to Doncaster Drive corridor. This approach builds upon the successful precedent set by the installation of three speed humps south of Derby Road.
Community Impact and Saanich Safety Initiatives:
The proposed traffic calming measures represent a significant step forward in enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety within the community. By aligning with the Saanich Safe Routes to School planning process, Active Transportation Plan, Speed Limit Establishment Policy, and Council's Vision Zero as per the Road Safety Action Plan, we demonstrate our commitment to safer, more sustainable streets. Prioritizing the well-being of our residents contributes to a healthier environment and reduced congestion. Together, we can create a safer, more vibrant, and eco-friendly Saanich for all.
