Rutledge Road Watermain Replacement
What’s happening?
The District of Saanich is undertaking utility upgrades on Rutledge Street between Tolmie Avenue and 3245 Rutledge. The scope of work includes the replacement of the existing watermain infrastructure. All service connections and fire hydrants will be replaced as well.
Why are we doing this?
The watermain located from 3245 Rutledge Street to Tolmie Avenue along Rutledge Street is 1955 Cast Iron pipe. This section of pipe has been identified in Saanich’s Water Supply Master Plan as requiring flow upgrades. The watermain currently services large apartment buildings on the west side of Rutledge Street.
Project Impacts
During construction, work will take place between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday.
Vehicle access will be impacted by single lane alternating traffic and full closures depending on the work area. Some properties will have their driveway inaccessible for a short period of time. Saanich Public Works staff will notify residents of these occasions and try to accommodate any access concerns.
Traffic control personnel and signage will be in-place to help direct vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians through and around the work areas.
Phased disruption to services in the area will occur during construction. Saanich Public Works will notify residents a minimum of 24 hours prior to any disruption of services. Waste collection and recycling services will be maintained.
Duration: Construction is expected to last 8 weeks. Timeline is subject to change according to site specific conditions.
