Seaton Regina Sidewalk

The District of Saanich will be upgrading the roadway and sidewalks on Seaton St and Regina Ave to current Saanich standards. Where possible, the sidewalks will be separated, featuring concrete curbs and gutters. The project will be divided into three phases:

Phase 1. Seaton St from Burnside Rd West to Hampton Rd

Phase 2. Seaton St from Hampton Rd to Regina Ave

Phase 3. Regina Ave from Seaton St to Tillicum Rd

The objective of this project is to provide improvements to the pedestrian facilities and roadway on Seaton St and Regina Ave in accordance with the current Saanich standards and the Active Transportation Plan. Both streets have been identified in Saanich’s Active Transportation Plan as requiring short-term pedestrian improvements. Additionally, Seaton St is part of the long-term bike route network and connects to the cycling pathway beneath the Trans Cana-da Highway leading to the Galloping Goose Trail.

Creating safe, walkable, and connected communities is one of the top priorities of the Official Community Plan. This project will enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists travelling to Hampton Park and Tillicum Elementary School.

📅 March 12th Update

Crews will begin construction for Phase 3 on March 17, starting at the east end of Regina Ave near Seaton Street and progressing westward. A road closure will be in effect on Regina Avenue, from Tillicum Road to Seaton Street.

Traffic & Access Information:

Resident Access: Those living within the closure area can continue to drive past closure signs to reach their homes.
Through Traffic: The closure remains in place for through traffic.
Minimizing Delays: Homeowners within the closure area are encouraged to approach from Tillicum Road rather than Seaton Street to avoid the active work zone and reduce delays.
Overnight Closures: There may be occasional overnight closures. Overnight conditions will mirror daytime conditions.

Given the type of work involved and the current conditions of the road, Regina Ave, extending from Tillicum Rd to Seaton Ave, will be closed to through traffic. The closure will not affect local access. All residential driveways on Regina Ave will remain accessible during the closure. Pedestrian access will also be maintained throughout the closure. The District of Saanich will strive to minimize any inconvenience to local residents throughout the construction period.
