Sinclair Road Upgrades

The decorative infill marks the final step in completing the Sinclair Road Upgrades Project. From the outset, the roundabout design called for a contrasting treatment in the center area — one that adds visual interest while reinforcing the roundabout form, encouraging slower turning movements, and deterring drivers from traveling straight through the intersection. The roundabout remains fully traversable, allowing larger vehicles to maneuver through when needed.

Community collaboration

This feature came to life through a partnership between Saanich, the Cadboro Bay Business Improvement Association, and the Cadboro Bay Residents Association. The Business Improvement Association approached Saanich with a desire to help beautify Cadboro Bay Village, and engaged a local artist to create a design that reflects the character of the community. Once a preferred concept was selected, Saanich worked with its community partners to incorporate it into the already planned construction at the roundabout.

By bringing together community interest, local design input, and municipal infrastructure delivery, the project was able to meet both functional and placemaking goals. The result supports the safe operation of the intersection while contributing to a stronger sense of identity for Cadboro Bay Village.

Due to weather conditions, the art installation has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 27.

📅 May 21 update

There will be workers on-site on Friday, May 22, cleaning the roundabout in advance of the art installation scheduled for May 26. This work will take a few hours.

Sinclair Road and Cadboro Bay Road will remain open in all directions during this time. While we do not anticipate significant disruptions, there may be minor delays as traffic flaggers guide vehicles safely through the intersection.

We would like to inform residents and commuters of upcoming work at the Sinclair/Cadboro Bay Road roundabout scheduled for May 27, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This work is to install a new public art piece that will enhance the visual landscape of the community.

Traffic Impacts:

To ensure the safety of workers and the public during installation:

• The work will be completed in two parts. For half the day, one side of Sinclair will be closed at the intersection. The closure will then switch to the opposite side for the remainder of the day.
• Traffic flaggers will be present on both sides of the intersection to guide vehicles and keep everyone safe.
• A map below shows the closure area (blue) and the single lane alternating route (red).
