Urban Forest Strategy Action Plan
The District of Saanich is offering an opportunity for public input on the proposed Action Plan to implement the updated Draft Urban Forest Strategy (UFS).
This renewed draft strategy will provide guidance to staff, Council and residents on managing Saanich's urban forest into the next 10 to 50 years. It acknowledges anticipated challenges and opportunities, and provides a new vision and plan for how we will respond and manage a healthy, resilient urban forest.
We encourage people to review the proposed Action Plan and provide feedback through the questionnaire provided.
Background
The Urban Forest Strategy provides guidance on how to manage, protect, connect, and enhance the District’s urban forest. It is designed to recognize other key Council priorities such as increasing housing opportunities and providing active transportation options.

Phases
Urban Forest Strategy Action Plan Questionnaire
A draft Action Plan has been developed to implement the updated Draft Urban Forest Strategy (UFS). This questionnaire seeks public feedback on the latest draft of the updated Action Plan. The Action Plan supports the UFS’s canopy target of 44% by 2064. Your feedback is important to us, and will be summarized and considered as we refine the Action Plan.
The draft updated Urban Forest Strategy Action Plan identifies 3 goals, each with 3 supporting strategies. The three goals are:
- Goal 1: Protect, connect and enhance the urban forest in harmony with built and natural environments.
- Goal 2: Foster a culture of community care for the urban forest.
- Goal 3: Manage the urban forest adaptively based on experience, knowledge, and relationships.
